Artist Statement:

We may leave a place we love, but it does not leave us. Its light, colors, and small details can return years later, sometimes when we least expect them. 

In “The Places Between,” Christi Meril layers passages of color with marks that appear, fade, and surface again. No single landscape comes fully into view. Instead, the painting holds traces of several places at once, much as memory does. 

The work invites us to think of the places we carry within us. They can feel close even from far away, becoming part of how we see wherever we are now.
