Artist Statement:
Most of us grow up and eventually acknowledge and appreciate the sacrifices our parents have made for us. Since becoming a parent myself, I can say for certain that I didn’t fully grasp the magnitude of that statement. So, The Bees, in a way, is a dedication to my mom - for all the times I never said thank you. I have learned so much from her over the years - she has shown me what kindness and love look like, opened my eyes to the magic and mystery of nature, how to get through the tough days and how to celebrate the happy ones. As a naive adult just graduating college, I decided to get married. I knew my parents were not thrilled and two years later their intuition proved to be right. The young marriage was anything but thriving. My heart was broken and I felt like a failure. My mom gave me a bracelet with bees on it - the note read “everything will bee ok :)” That bracelet has since then traveled around our family and over the years, the bee has become somewhat of a family symbol or reminder that everything will bee ok. Looking back, I could have let that one sad chapter define me - divorced at 23. Awesome. In a way, I don’t regret it because I learned so much more about who I am. I can stand up for myself, I can do tough things on my own, and I deserve a happy and colorful life.
About the Artist:
Hannah Brown graduated from Colorado State University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a concentration in metalsmithing and jewelry. Following her education, Brown moved back to Dallas to start her career as a custom fine jeweler for a local elite designer. After 11 years of honing her craft, she felt the need to switch her focus and go after a life long dream of becoming a studio painter.
By blending her jewelry career with her early childhood experiences of being raised by parents that embraced nature and creativity, she has created a distinct style all her own.
Brown primarily paints with oil on canvas to create her bold and eye catching gem encrusted paintings.
