Artist Statement:

I created at this new painting as a follow-up to one of my first-ever pieces, Destination. This piece picks up where that dream left off, not just about reaching the mountain, but embracing all the messy steps in between. It’s about the evolution that unfolds along the way: the joyful moments, the challenging stretches, and the strange in-betweens where you’re no longer where you began, but not quite where you’re headed.

My husband and I often walk together, and many of our best ideas, biggest dreams, and “what if” conversations have taken shape while out in nature. The painting draws from that rhythm of walking — the grounding calm, the quiet connection, and the way movement through the landscape mirrors movement through life. At its heart, Destination II honours the process, echoing the themes of Clumsy Beauty: the imperfect, beautiful unfolding of becoming. It’s a reminder that sometimes the journey is the destination and often, it’s where the real magic happens.

Originally from Leeds, England, Emma Evans moved to Manchester to study fashion at Manchester Metropolitan University and stayed. Drawing ongoing inspiration from the city’s vibrancy and spirit, she opened Emma Evans Art Gallery, creating original and commissioned work for clients’ homes, offices, and workplaces such as Nike, Havas, and Red Bull.
