Artist Statement:
I was inspired by the poem from “From the Thoughts Pile,” because it reminded me to enjoy and conceptualize a painting. Its message of simple happiness reminded the reason why I create and how my impulse of incorporating bold colors plays an important role in my art.
The “Baltistan Rainbow,” paintings follow that same impulse. I let color lead, layering and shaping it until the painting holds the energy I want it to carry. These pieces are wild and energetic; and also capture the vibrancy of the Kailash/Hindukush culture in the Karakoram mountain region in Pakistan. This set is about holding on to joy, refusing to quiet it, and creating space for color to speak with its full voice.
Amber Goodwin is a Pakistani American artist whose textured abstractions explore the balance between control and intuition, heritage and reinvention. With a background in biology and medical research, Goodwin’s circular motifs and layered surfaces draw from South Asian visual traditions and scientific forms alike, evoking protection, meditation, and memory.
