Artist Statement:

Artful Mischief captures the essence of Clumsy Beauty through the uninhibited creativity of a child. The little girl, covered in paint and surrounded by her spontaneous artwork, symbolizes the raw, imperfect, yet beautiful process of creation. Like the poem, the piece embraces the "spark" of inspiration and the messy, unfiltered journey of imagination. Her back adorned with a butterfly reflects transformation—art emerging from chaos—celebrating creativity not as a polished product, but as a joyful, messy, and limitless expression of self.

Based in Frisco, Texas, Barbara J. Mason (PSA, PSSW, DPS, APAA) is a nationally and internationally acclaimed multi-disciplinary African American artist, with expertise in pastel, watercolor, colored pencil, and fiber art. As a signature pastel artist, Barbara has earned numerous awards and distinctions, including being named among the Top 100 pastel artists nationally four times.
