Suzy Moritz

Artist Statement:

The morning glow of the sun coming up from behind the mountains speaks to me.  Not just any mountains, the magical mountains of Northern New Mexico. My artistic spirit comes alive when I see and feel the spirit of the mountains that inspired Georgia O'Keeffe and me.  

Artist Bio:

Suzy Moritz is a native Texas artist whose interest in art started at an early age, when she began to see the world in shapes of light and shadow. Her impressionistic paintings have evolved by putting the dynamic, dramatic elements on canvas of those reflections, capturing the mood and spirits. Suzy studied art at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. 

In 2004 after a long career in business, she took a life changing detour and the smoldering desire to become a full time artist became a reality. Her current artistic journey began with reintroducing herself to art by taking an art lesson at Dallas Creative Arts Center, her first attempt being a totally black painting. After that first attempt, the rest is history. She is well known for her lively pet portraits, architectural renderings, wall murals and representational landscapes, all of which can be found in many homes and businesses throughout the United States. Following her journey and her passion for architecture, she became Artistic Director for Junius Heights Historic Home Tour and Swiss Avenue Home Tour for many years. During that time she was chosen to create 400 pen and ink drawings for the Omni Hotel in downtown Dallas.

She has exhibited in Texas and New Mexico for the past 20 years and has studios both in Dallas, Texas and Taos, New Mexico. She is currently showing at The Dallas World Trade Center, The Songbird Society, Talullah & Hess and Davis Street Mercantile, all in Dallas and Barra Vino, and Bryan's Gallery in Taos, New Mexico.
